In the small town of Wise, located in southwest Virginia, there is a unique tradition that takes place every October. What is the name of this annual event and what is it known for?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

In 1985, the Historical Society of Southwest Virginia celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The society was founded in 1961 following a consultation on creative writing in Appalachia.

Over the years, the society has published pamphlets, contributed to preservation projects, and acquired historical material for its archives.

Despite the passing of some original members, the society continues to thrive with about 140 members.

Meetings are held three times a year and visitors are always welcome.

The society hopes that younger generations will continue to preserve and honor the history of Southwest Virginia in the years to come.
